The solar sensor's function is to monitor the strength or power of sunshine, an important weather parameter, but especially relevant to those stations being used for agricultural or farming applications, for example to allow the calculation of evapotranspiration, which the Vantage Pro2 console can display directly.

A two-piece housing minimizes radiation heating, allows convection cooling of the sensor, and prevents the trapping of water or dust. To mount next to the Vantage Pro rain collector, add the sensor mounting shelf (not included).
