Q: How do I set the latitude/longitude on my WS300?
If you are experiencing oddities with your sunrise and sunset times on your WS300, please check that you have the right values for latitude, longitude and time zone, especially if you are slightly west of the Greenwich Meridian (which encompasses most of the UK). The WS300 needs slightly modified settings for small values of western longitude.
In order to set it correctly, you need to find out your exact location. This can be easily found by typing your postcode into the Streetmap website: http://www.streetmap.co.uk . You will be shown a map, below which is a line of text saying 'Click here to convert co-ordinates'. Click there and you will get your lat/long in decimal form, amongst other things.
For example. a location in Gloucestershire has the latitude of 51.722246 and a longitude of -2.167665.
Enter the settings mode on the WS300 and make sure today's correct date and time are set. The WS300 does not use decimal points and will take a value of 517 for the latitude, but for longitude you need to subtract the value from 180. In this case you get 177.832335, which you need to enter into the WS300 as 1778.
Set the time zone as 12.
Exit the settings mode and you will get a time for sunrise and sunset. You can verify this using another website; http://www.heavens-above.com . From the homepage, follow the link to set your location manually and enter the lat/long that you found earlier. Return to the homepage and there is a link for sun data. This page will give you today's sunrise and sunset for your location. The WS300 usually agrees with this page to within a minute or two.
