Cokethorpe School
With studies of Energy, Weather and Climate across both Science and Geography Departments, Cokethorpe School began to investigate different ways in which they could collect and harness essential Weather data. Utilising money raised from their Annual Fundraising Cokethorpe purchased a Weather Monitoring System to benefit the whole school.
About Cokethorpe School
Founded in 1957, Cokethorpe is a coeducational day school with a thriving community of almost 700 pupils, aged from 4 to 18. A vibrant, purposeful and happy school, Cokethorpe provides a challenging and rigorous set of academic programmes within a caring and supportive environment.
The beautiful and historic grounds of the School, and the main Queen Anne Mansion House, contrast with the sophisticated and modern buildings which house much of the learning space for students.
Classical Backdrop, Critical Data
Being able to provide students with the most up to date educational equipment is crucial at Cokethorpe. With their studies of Energy, Weather and Climate across both the Science and Geography Departments, they began to investigate different ways in which they could collect and harness essential Weather data and intelligence.
The Skyview Solution
Cokethorpe School utilised money raised from their Annual Fundraising to purchase a Weather Monitoring System to benefit the whole school. After discussions with the Skyview Systems team, Cokethorpe decided to proceed with a Davis Vantage Pro2.
An impressive and sophisticated Weather Station the Davis Vantage Pro2 has a suite of sensors to measure and monitor Wind Speed & Direction, Temperature, Humidity, Rainfall, Barometric Pressure, Solar Radiation & UV Index. It is also able to accurately predict the forecast for the locality for the next 3 days.
To compliment the Weather Data, Cokethorpe also included a subscription to our ClimeMET Learning Platform.
Unique to Skyview, ClimeMET provides an interactive suite of weather data alongside a range of learning and tutorial tools for each Key Stage in the curriculum.
Dr Flaherty, Head of Science, commented 'The Weather Station has totally surpassed my expectations in terms of the impressive amount of useful data it generates'
Weather intelligence and data is available directly through the Cokethorpe Website, allowing pupils, staff and visitors the opportunity to view the weather at the touch of a button.
A World of Benefits
The introduction of a Weather Station to the school will provide benefits for all, from those in the Junior School, right through to the Sixth Form. The data collected will be a vital learning tool throughout the school, and in particular for the Geography & Science Departments.
Mrs Martindale, Head of Geography, commented: 'Up to the minute data will be available for our team of budding meteorologists and in the future we hope to establish global links with other schools to compare data from different continents'.
