Datchet Water
Datchet Water Sailing Club hosts many National and International racing fixtures and sailing events, as well as providing year round sailing for all boat classes, so it's vital that they have clear and accurate weather data. Recognising this, Skyview commissioned a robust Weather Station, complete with full online weather reporting via Skylink-Pro for all their members.
About Datchet Water Sailing Club
Datchet Water Sailing Club is a modern club set on a large inland reservoir providing a complete range of activities for every type of sailor, set with magnificent views overlooking Windsor Castle. The sailing water is 475 acres or over 1 mile (almost 2 kilometres) in diameter - making it one of the largest inland areas west of London. It's large and flexible enough to provide year round sailing for all boat classes and ideal for hosting sailing events of all levels from junior, club through to large international events.
The Challenge
Datchet Water Sailing Club required their existing Vantage Pro1 weather station to be calibrated and commissioned for instant weather data in a hurry, with a view to an upgraade to the Vantage Pro2 weather station in the future. With an upcoming Club Regatta weekend and frequent water users needing comprehensive weather data the club required a system overhaul urgently.
Our Solution
Time limitations meant a site visit and calibration with one of Skyview's trained engineers was arranged as a priority. Servicing the existing weather station became key to supplying Datchet Water Sailing Club with an effective solution. The Vantage Pro1; now upgraded to the latest Vantage Pro2 weather station, covers a wide variety of parameters, including temperature and humidity, pressure, wind speed and direction. The data is automatically transmitted from the outside sensors to the console, from where the data is uploaded to a PC via a datalogger and is then accessible through Skyview's web service Skylink-Pro.
Once the weather station was up and running weather information was accessible via the Datchet Water website, allowing all sailors to view the current conditions on site, from wherever they are in the country, before leaving home. The Clubhouse makes use of its bespoke Skylink-pro site by showing current conditions on a big plasma screen, with an automatic kiosk setting which scrolls through the various weather pages including daily forecast and satellite & radar images, every few seconds.
Key Benefits
The solution provided by Skyview has several key benefits for Datchet Water Sailing Club:
