Brightlingsea Harbour
Tucked away on the East Coast a few miles from Colchester lies the ancient port of Brightlingsea. Once famed for its Thames barge traffic and racing skiffs, it is now home to two major sailing clubs and a centre of marine leisure activities. Weather folklore is legion along the East Coast, but even so modern technology has a place to keep weekend sailors up to date and safe.
About Brightlingsea Harbour
Brightlingsea Harbour is a mixed leisure and commercial port in Essex, set within a nature conservation area of international importance. For several years Skyview have been supplying Brightlingsea Harbour with weather monitoring equipment, and they were keen to add a new dimension to benefit their regular patrons as well as visitors by adding Skylink-pro weather, from their sensors at the harbour, to their website.
Equipment In Operation
Brightlingsea Harbour have in operation a Davis Vantage Pro2 weather station, providing accurate weather for the following parameters:
> Wind speed & direction
> Rainfall
> Temperature indoor & out
> Humidity indoor & out
> Pressure
The station also has a reliable forecast feature, making it the weather station of choice for the harbour. Weatherlink software is installed on a pc at the harbour office, from where all the historic and current data can be viewed.
Enhancing Weather Equipment
After speaking to one of the experts at Skyview, Brightlingsea were made aware of Skylink-pro, a web service that allows data from their weather station to be viewed from any pc with internet access. For a nominal subscription fee the harbour were able to incorporate a link to Skylink-pro in the homepage of their website, giving accurate current weather from the harbour itself to their customers and visitors.
Key Benefits
A further key benefit of incorporating Skylink-pro into their website is that the weather web service is also populated with data from over 300 stations nationwide, as well as forecasts and satellite images, providing Brightlingsea Harbour visitors and customers with a complete weather service directly through a website they know and love.
