Local Schools Achieve Eco-School Status
Skyview Systems recently presented awards to Colchester Girls High School and Philip Morant School at the 2009 Eco-Schools Summit. A Davis Vantage Pro2, complete with WeatherLink software, was presented to each of the two winners of the Recycled Arts Award.
About Eco-Schools
Skyview Systems, the Sudbury based weather monitoring solutions company, recently presented two awards at the Eco-Schools Summit, held on 21st October 2009 at Western Homes Community Stadium in Colchester.
Run by Colchester Borough Council in conjunction with the Food for Life Partnership and Colchester Sixth Form College, the Summit provided a platform for schools involved in the world-wide Eco-Schools Programme to come together to share ideas on how to be more 'green'. A variety of exhibitors, activities, presentations and workshops designed to encourage 'green' thinking and practices were also available, including pressing apples, churning organic butter and finding out how to make ethical fashion by turning recycled textiles into clothing.
The Prizes
Skyview Systems, in conjunction with EDF Energy, presented a top of the range weather monitoring system, the Davis Vantage Pro2, complete with WeatherLink software, to each of the two winners of the Recycled Arts Award; Colchester Girls High School and Philip Morant School.
The Davis Vantage Pro2 measures a wide variety of weather parameters including wind speed and direction, temperature and rainfall. This allows all data to be logged historically and manipulated for use across the curriculum.
Alongside free installation of the equipment, Skyview is also providing a year's subscription to the ClimeMET web service. This innovative resource enables data to be uploaded and viewed on any Internet enabled PC, whether on- or off-site. With several schools in the area already using Skylink-Pro Colchester will be the first microclimate Skylink-Pro study area in the UK.
Achievements
Nic Hart, Managing Director of Skyview Systems, says:
"We were delighted to be asked to present prizes for the Recycled Arts Award at the Eco-Schools Summit. At Skyview we are passionate about the environment and strongly believe that introducing sustainable methods to schools not only helps them to reduce their carbon footprint, but also encourages the younger generation to adopt a more environmentally friendly lifestyle, which they then pass to future generations as well as their parents and grandparents."
